- 25–40 min

Coloring order
- Color the three pyramids standing side by side in the back a pale sand color first, changing the shade a little along the stacked-stone lines.
- Split the Sphinx's face and head covering between two yellows, and outline the eyes and mouth in brown so they stand out.
- Alternate yellow and orange on the stone body and the two huge paws stretched forward, and color the sand under its feet last.
Questions to talk about
- Where do you think the Sphinx is looking?
- If a friend had a lion's body and a human face, what stories might happen?
- Have you ever played in sand? What did you build?
Take it further
Pile sand in a tray or sandbox into a pyramid, then shape a lying-down Sphinx from damp sand and set it in front.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
