Coloring order

  1. Begin with the wide stone steps under the Parthenon in pale beige, changing the shade a tiny bit from step to step.
  2. Color the long row of columns along the side one by one, and fill the dark gaps between them with deep gray-brown.
  3. Last, carefully color the carved decoration inside the triangular gable at the top and the band above the columns with a fine pencil.

Questions to talk about

  • Why do you think so many columns were set in a row like this?
  • If you played hide-and-seek between the columns, where would you hide?
  • Have you ever seen something very old? What did it look like?

Take it further

Cut paper tubes or straws to the same length, stand them in a row, and rest thick paper on top to build a small temple with columns.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
