Coloring order
- Color El Castillo's stepped body in sand and gray-brown, alternating the two colors level by level so the stacked shape shows.
- Paint the long staircase running straight up the middle of the front in one dark color so it separates from the side walls.
- Give the small temple on top its own color, then lightly go over the thin lines between the stones with a pencil crayon at the end.
Questions to talk about
- This pyramid is built in steps. What might be waiting at the very top?
- If you climbed the stairs one by one, what would you see from the top?
- Have you ever climbed a lot of stairs? How did you feel on the way up?
Take it further
Cut cardboard squares from large to small, stack them into a stepped pyramid, and set a tiny box on top like a temple.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
