Coloring order

  1. Start with the biggest areas: blue for the sky, yellow for the round sun at the top right and teal for the sea.
  2. Color the green tiled band near the top of the tall tower and the beige wall below, then match the small arches in front of the building to one color.
  3. Last, color the waving child's red cap, long blue robe and yellow shoes, and the leaves of the palm tree on the left.

Questions to talk about

  • What do you think you would see toward the sea from the top of the tall tower?
  • What will the child do to rest in the shade of the palm tree?
  • Do you have your own way of staying cool on a hot day?

Take it further

Cut out a sun from yellow paper and long palm leaves from green paper, then make a little seaside scene beside the picture.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
