Coloring order

  1. Keep the huge round dome of the stupa nearly white, adding only a light gray shadow, and color the ground a pale sand.
  2. Color the golden tower on top and the big eyes on the square part below it in bold yellow, blue and red.
  3. Last, color the strings of flags stretching down from the top, cycling through five colors in order, then the child's vest and cap pattern.

Questions to talk about

  • With his hands pressed together, what kind of greeting do you think the boy is giving?
  • Where do you think the big eyes painted on the tower are looking?
  • How do you think the strings of colorful flags move when the wind blows?

Take it further

Glue small paper triangle flags in a row onto a piece of yarn, then fan it gently and watch how the flags flutter.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
