Coloring order

  1. Begin with the biggest areas: the canal behind the girl in blue and the grassy bank in green.
  2. Color the girl's blue dress, white apron, yellow wooden shoes and the red tulip in her hand one at a time.
  3. Last, fill the lattice squares of the windmill sails with brown and pale yellow, then the two tulips at the bottom right in red.

Questions to talk about

  • Where do you think the girl is going with her tulip?
  • What would happen if the windmill's sails started to spin?
  • What is your favorite flower, and what color is it?

Take it further

Fold a paper pinwheel and blow on it to make it spin. How is it like the sails of the windmill in the picture?

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
