Coloring order
- Start with the long pool in the courtyard of the Alhambra in a greenish teal, and make the reflected arches in it a bit lighter.
- Color the arched wooden door in the middle, the slim columns on both sides and the lattice-patterned wall above in tans and browns.
- Last, color the square tower with the notched top and the small roofs at each side light orange, and alternate the rows of roof tiles.
Questions to talk about
- How are the arches in the pool the same as the real ones, and how are they different?
- What sounds might you hear walking slowly between the slim columns?
- Have you ever seen yourself reflected in a mirror or in water?
Take it further
Fold a paper in half and draw arches and columns on the top part. Then draw the same picture upside down below the fold, like a reflection in the pool.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
