Coloring order

  1. Begin with the body of the tallest tower in the middle of Wat Arun, shifting between pale beige and gray from layer to layer.
  2. Color the four smaller towers around it and the steps below in the same family of colors so that the heights are easy to tell apart.
  3. Choose just two or three colors, like green and pink, for the tiny layered patterns and fill every other tiny space, then color the pointed tip gold.

Questions to talk about

  • How are the middle tower and the smaller towers alike, and how do they differ?
  • This place is also called the 'Temple of the Dawn.' What color is the sky at dawn?
  • Have you ever climbed steep steps? What could you see at the top?

Take it further

Cut several pointed paper triangles and glue them in layers from biggest to smallest to make a tower. Then add four small towers around the tallest one.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
