Coloring order

  1. Color the huge towering rock of Sigiriya in orange and brown, splitting the color along the stains that run down its sides.
  2. Paint the small flat site on the very top in green and gray so it stands apart from the rock below.
  3. Last, color the zigzag stairs and stone footing at the bottom front in light gray and brown.

Questions to talk about

  • What kind of view would you see from the top of this rock?
  • How do you think people climbed up to a place on top of a rock?
  • Have you ever climbed a big rock or hill while playing? How was it?

Take it further

On a walk, find a big stone and look at its color and shape, then lay paper over it and rub with a crayon to capture its texture.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
