Coloring order

  1. Leave the top of the Matterhorn's sharp peak as white snow, and begin with the rock below in a blue-gray.
  2. Color the waving girl's red knit hat and jacket, blue backpack and brown hiking boots, choosing one color for each.
  3. Make the front meadow green and the pine tree on the right deep green, then dot the yellow centers of the white flowers last.

Questions to talk about

  • Do you think the girl is about to climb the mountain, or just rest and look at it?
  • What do you think is packed inside her backpack?
  • If you have been up somewhere high, what could you see from there?

Take it further

Glue cotton balls or torn white paper on the peak like snow, then draw three things you would pack for a hike.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
