Coloring order
- Color the owl's brown feathers, cream face and two ear tufts first, and make the big round pupils dark.
- Alternate red, orange and yellow leaves and brown acorns on the wreath being made and on the finished one at right, so the two look alike.
- Last, do the squirrel and the acorn basket, the ribbon spool and glue bottle, the two pumpkins and the leaves on the branch above.
Questions to talk about
- Where will the owl hang the finished wreath?
- What is the squirrel thinking as it holds that acorn?
- What things from nature would you use to decorate your home or classroom?
Take it further
Glue leaves from a walk around the rim of a paper plate to make your own autumn wreath, then tie on a ribbon. An adult helps with the glue.
Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.
